This morning the school tweeted a link about how colleges and universities are “going digital.” We had talked already about how lower education has used new technology for education, and I thought this article was interesting since it applied more to us. I also like infographics.

I know that our school library has 8 ipads that can be checked out for 2 weeks at a time. They are in extremely high demand, the wait list goes into next semester, but they seem to be holding up well and people are finding them very useful. There is a sociology class, if I remember correctly, that is testing out how ipads can be used in a classroom setting. All of the students were assigned ipads at the beginning of the semester to be used for the class and it’s gotten fantastic reviews so far. If editors and Apple can come up with a way to keep the cost of digital books from ultimately being more expensive than hard copies then I think we will see quite the transformation in how we use textbooks to learn. Plus, Apple is pretty much the top dog of innovation so it seems that making digital books more cost effective is not a matter of if, but, when.
