Apparently there is such a thing as social media week and it is this week. I only found this out because someone posted an interesting photo of their celebrations. . .

I decided to look deeper into this day and found the movement’s site (socialmediaweek.org) and decided to do some investigating. I found this on their ‘about’ section: “Reflecting the global impact of social media – and its role as a catalyst in driving cultural, economic, political and social change in developed and emerging markets – Social Media Week is one of the world’s most unique global platforms, offering a series of interconnected activities and conversations around the world on emerging trends in social and mobile media across all major industries.” To simplify this, after looking at the post from their day 4 (today), it seems that they map out what is being focused on in different social media sites, mostly seems to be that twitter is the most widely used (making up 96%+ of usage in different cities). An enlightening project to better understand what topics are trending in different cities throughout the world.
